15 percent more passengers in the first half of 2016

With an increase of 15 percent in passengers of Memmingen airport results a very positive balance of the first half of 2016.

For the whole year 2016 Memmingen airport expects a total of 950,000 passengers. “The climb continues” says Airport Manager Ralf Schmid about the positive development of the first half with a total of 437,785 passengers. Last year there were 383,733, which represent an increase by 15 percent.

In addition to the top customers Ryanair and Wizz Air also ranked at the Allgäu Airport Pobeda, Austrian Airlines and Fly Niki on the next places. The most popular destination is still London, followed by Porto and Dublin. In fourth place comes Skopje, then already Moscow. The new Moscow connection was successfully launched on March 3rd by the Russian airline Pobeda.
There has also been increased aircraft utilization. They increased by another four percentage points from last 78 to now 82 percent. The day with the highest number of passengers was the 17th of May, when at the beginning of Pentecost 3,900 passengers were recorded. On April 21st there was the record of these movements: A total of 130 times launched or landed a plane at the Memmingen airport.

By the end of the year, the airport expects a total of 950,000 passengers who have chosen Memmingen airport as their airport.

From 1st of August Wizz Air flies to Niš

With the Serbian city of Niš the Memmingen airport receives its 14th destination in Eastern Europe. From 1st of August Wizz Air flies twice a week to the third biggest city of Serbia with about 260,000 inhabitants, which is one of the industrial centers of the country.
“Like many of our Eastern European routes, we expect in both directions a large proportion of visitors to friends and relatives,” explains Allgäu Airport Sales Director Marcel Schütz. As well economically, culturally and tourist-related tourism play a role.

Six times per week to Sofia

From the beginning of September the number of flights to Sofia will double. Besides Wizz Air which connects the capital of Bulgaria with Memmingen since September last year, Ryanair starts with two flights per week on September 09th. At the moment Sofia is one of the most popular destinations in Eastern Europe from the Memmingen Airport. Wizz Air will increase from two to four weekly flights, starting December 23.

Leisure and business travel and visits to relatives and friends dominate the motives of travelers from Southern Germany as well as from the neighboring countries Switzerland and Austria.

New Wizz Air route to Montenegro

With Podgorica Memmingen Airport now receives its 13th destination in Eastern Europe. Starting on 21st of August, the airline Wizz Air connects twice a week Montenegro capital with the airport.

Always on Thursday and on Sunday it goes to the capitol of Montenegro with around 145,000 inhabitants. It is the country’s largest city and its economic and political center.
Thanks to its Adriatic coast, tourism plays a strong economic role. The capital Podgorica – the name “Pod Gorica” means “below the mountain” – is an important reference point for both leisure and business guests. “With this new connection we create another bridge between Southern and Southeastern European country whose tourism industry has great potential,” explains Allgäu Airport Memmingen Sales Director Marcel Schütz.
