Passenger screening at Memmingen Airport is carried out by Sicherheitsgesellschaft Memmingen (SGMM), a company operated by the Free State of BavariaIn order to ensure that the screening process runs smoothly, please observe the following instructions:

  • Please have your boarding passes ready and show them at the boarding pass control without being asked.
  • Before entering the security scanner, please remove any overwear, thick cardigans, sweatshirts, sturdy shoes, hiking boots and boots.
  • Please take off your belt and completely empty all trouser pockets.
  • Please remove all electronic devices from your hand luggage and place them separately in a tray.
  • Please remove all liquids (liquids, aerosols, gels, sprays, etc.) that you are carrying with you from your hand luggage. Please note the maximum container size of 100 ml and storage in a maximum 1 litre, transparent, sealable plastic bag.
  • Items such as pocket knives and scissors with a blade length of more than 6 cm, as well as tools and other dangerous items, are not permitted in hand baggage.

Collection containers for liquids and deposit bottles

At Memmingen Airport, liquid collection containers are available before security where passengers can empty their drinks before going through security.

In addition, there are special collection containers for deposit bottles in the public area. This gives travelers the opportunity to donate their bottles to a good cause instead of throwing them away. The collected deposit bottles are picked up by volunteers from the Kaufbeuren-based aid organization humedica and redeemed at the local V-Markt supermarket in Memmingen. The proceeds from the donations support humedica in need worldwide.

EES - The New Entry/Exit System

The European Entry/Exit System (EES) has been in effect since October 12, 2025. This new border control system affects third-country nationals entering and leaving the Schengen Area. EU citizens are not affected by the EES. In the long term, the EES will replace the current passport stamps and ensure modern, digital border control within Europe.

The introduction of the EES at Memmingen Airport will be phased in:

Start of implementation: January 26, 2026

Full operation: from May 1, 2026

What changes will the EES bring?

For third-country nationals, the border control procedure for entering the EU will change. In the future, travel data will be recorded digitally, including through:

Scanning of travel documents

Facial recognition

Fingerprint collection

Departure will also be recorded electronically. The goal is to increase security at the Schengen borders and to better track entry and exit across the EU.

What does this mean for you as a passenger?

In the initial phase, you may experience longer waiting times at border control. Memmingen Airport is working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure the smoothest and most efficient process possible for all travelers. We recommend that passengers allow extra time for processing and have their travel documents readily available.

Passport Control

At Memmingen Airport, the Bavarian State Police are responsible for both border policing and general policing duties. The Memmingen Airport Border Police Inspectorate (GPI Memmingen-Airport), as a branch of the Swabia South/West Police Headquarters, is under the supervision of the Bavarian Border Police Directorate, headquartered in Passau, and is authorized as a border authority by administrative agreement.
