Yerevan, the vibrant capital of Armenia, impresses visitors with its pink tuff stone buildings, wide boulevards, and dynamic art and café scene. With almost 2,800 years of history, the city combines ancient and modern elements. Take a stroll around Republic Square, where you can enjoy the evening water features, and climb the Cascade to visit the Cafesjian Centre for the Arts and take in the view of Mount Ararat. You can also visit the Matenadaran, home to valuable manuscripts, or the excavations of the Erebuni Fortress, from which Yerevan originated. Seek out peace and quiet in Lover’s Park or the Botanical Garden. The cuisine tempts with khorovats, tolma and lavash, the latter of which is protected by UNESCO. These dishes go well with aromatic wines or a glass of Armenian brandy in the cosy city centre pubs.
