Emergency Drill at Memmingen Airport on September 26
If numerous fire departments and emergency response teams rush to Memmingen Airport this coming Saturday, there is no cause for concern. The emergency is just a drill.
An airplane has crashed at the airport, and now the rescue teams are called into action. Around 10 a.m., volunteer fire departments from Ungerhausen, Holzgünz, Memmingerberg, and Benningen will rush to the airport, where they will be met by their colleagues from the airport fire department. Together with the THW Memmingen and several emergency medical services, their task will be to rescue and treat the injured. “Every drill serves the purpose of ensuring we are fully prepared for an emergency—one that we hope will never actually occur,” explains airport managing director Marcel Schütz. The focus is on communication among responders via digital radio, coordination with the incident command and the airport fire department, and verifying access routes. The responders will also practice quickly gaining access to the crashed aircraft and its passengers.
The drill will take place on Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Flight operations will not be affected and will proceed as scheduled.
