Start of winter flight schedule & a third Ryanair aircraft

Winter can come. Whether you prefer to spend it skiing or in swimwear – Memmingen Airport offers numerous travel options for both preferences in its new winter flight schedule, which comes into effect on Sunday, 30 October. A new addition is the Canary Island of Lanzarote. Ryanair is also celebrating a new milestone, stationing a third aircraft at Memmingen Airport for the first time, which is heading for a record year.

Head first into winter or leave the snow and ice behind: the new flight schedule offers numerous sunny destinations that can be reached non-stop from Memmingen. In the east, this ranges from Paphos in Cyprus and Tel Aviv to Sicily, which offers two routes with Palermo and Catania, and further via Spain and Portugal to the Canary Islands. In addition to Tenerife and Gran Canaria, Memmingen will also be connected to Lanzarote from 5 November. Ryanair will be flying non-stop to the sun every Saturday. A third aircraft, newly stationed in Memmingen, provides the necessary capacity. “Anyone wishing to travel again this winter will find numerous attractive and new options with us,” explains Airport Managing Director, Ralf Schmid. City trips to London, Dublin, Porto or Riga are also well worth it. One insider tip is Jordan, which can be reached quickly with a non-stop flight to the capital, Amman. The extensive offering Eastern European destinations, which is largely covered by Wizz Air, also offers numerous opportunities for discovery and makes travelling to friends and relatives and to work in Germany easier for many.

“In winter, however, we are still the airport for winter sports enthusiasts,” reports Schmid. Skiing enthusiasts from the United Kingdom and visitors from Eastern Europe alike appreciate the short distance to the snow-covered peaks in the Allgäu, or the neighbouring mountain regions. Those travelling in the opposite direction include holidaymakers from southern Germany who visit Finland and Norway with tour operators during the cold season, and whose charter flights depart from Memmingen.

Memmingen Airport is heading towards realising a new record year. In the first nine months of this year, it counted 1,472,446 passengers. This represents an increase of 12.5 per cent compared to 2019, when 1,308,368 passengers flew to and from Memmingen. In that year, the airport achieved its previous record result with 1.72 million passengers. Those tasked with managing the airport are certain that this mark will probably be surpassed before the end of the year.
