Starting August 3, 2026, paper Italian identity cards (“Carta d’Identità”) will no longer be valid for travel abroad, regardless of the expiration date printed on them. An electronic identity card (CIE) or a valid passport is required for international travel instead.
We ask affected passengers to check their travel documents well in advance of their flight. Only passengers with valid identification documents will be allowed to board international flights. As a general rule, we recommend that all travelers check the validity of their identification documents before departure to avoid any inconvenience at the airport.
