For some it’s the best weeks of the year, for others it’s a real challenge. The team at Memmingen Airport is expecting around 470,000 passengers during the upcoming holiday weeks. However, the team at southern Germany’s leading low-cost airport is well prepared.
Holiday time is travel time. Almost half a million passengers are expected at Memmingen Airport during this year’s summer holiday weeks. While last year there were around 423,000 passengers, an increase of eleven per cent to 470,000 people wanting to fly to and from Memmingen is now considered likely. “Our team is in top shape and will do its best,” says Airport Managing Director Ralf Schmid optimistically. Of course there will be waiting times. Therefore, all travellers should arrive at the airport in good time and with a good time buffer. “The desire to travel is unbroken,” Schmid interprets the figures. It is highly likely that the airport will break the three million barrier in terms of passenger numbers this year.
This is partly due to the ever-increasing range of flights offered by the airlines operating in Memmingen. In addition to new destinations such as Tangier, Dubrovnik and Pula and comebacks such as Zadar, Rhodes and Sarajevo, capacities have also been expanded on existing routes. From 1 August, Wizz Air will be flying five times a week to Varna on the Romanian Black Sea coast. The airline previously operated the route twice a week. The number of weekly flights to Cluj in Romania, Kutaisi in Georgia and the Albanian capital Tirana has also been increased during the holiday season. Tirana is now on the flight schedule nine times a week.
In order to avoid unnecessary stress when parking, airport managers advise passengers to book their parking space online in advance. The Airport City Shuttle, which runs every 30 minutes between Memmingen railway station and the terminal every day from 4.10 am to 11.10 pm, is also suitable for travelling to the airport in combination with Deutsche Bahn. The bus stop is located directly in front of the terminal. The Allgäu Airport Express runs several times a day between Munich Central Station and the terminal. Its non-stop connections are largely coordinated with the flight times. There is also a FlixBus stop in front of the terminal.
