Heading into the sun at Whitsun at short notice – as well as returning home safely and without any issues. Such a prospect is becoming ever easier from Memmingen Airport. This is because falling incidence rates in holiday destinations and relaxed entry regulations on return increase planning security. After completing a rapid test, the issue of quarantine is then off the table.
Incidence rates are falling – and the number of flights is on the up. That’s why Memmingen Airport is once again taking off to numerous popular destinations just in time for Whitsun. These include Alghero in Sardinia, Brindisi, Sicily’s capital Palermo and Lisbon. Holiday favourites such as Mallorca, Chania on Crete, Alicante and the Portuguese city of Faro are already being served at regular intervals. “None of our destinations is currently considered high risk, be it in terms of a new variant or incidence rates. The destinations in Spain and Portugal are also no longer categorised as risk areas. The return to Germany is, therefore, possible without restrictions,” explains Airport Sales Manager, Marcel Schütz. “The measures put in place offer protection and freedom, and ultimately make travelling safe again.” In addition to the vaccinated and those who are classified as in recovery from the Coronavirus, those who can present an antigen test (not older than 48 hours) or a PCR test (not older than 72 hours) do not have to go into quarantine. These confirmations can be easily uploaded with the digital entry application.
The flight schedule in Memmingen is growing from week to week. A maiden flight has also been scheduled for 20 May. On this day, Wizz Air will take off for Sarajevo. The addition of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital represents an important connection to the dense network of Eastern European destinations, and is the third destination in the country that can be reached from Memmingen after Tuzla and Banja Luka. Further new destinations are to follow. Tickets for the new connections to Rhodes, Corfu, Zagreb and Lappeenranta in Finland can already be booked. “Bit by bit, we are returning to a sense of normality,” emphasises Marcel Schütz. However, extensive hygiene measures still apply. Well-known destinations such as Athens, Barcelona, London, Dublin, Catania, Zadar and Larnaca on Cyprus will also soon be appearing on the display boards.
Overview of all summer flight destinations
Memmingen Airport continues to offer an extensive range of test flights. The rapid antigen test centre is open daily from 5 am to 11 pm in a marquee next to the P1 car park near the terminal for all citizens resident in Germany. The results of the free tests are sent by e-mail in German within 15 to 20 minutes. Pre-registration is required for the rapid test centre, as well as for the PCR test centre, which is open daily from 6 am to midnight, and is located in a former “Lärmschutzhalle” next to the P1 car park. For international guests, the company EcoCare offers PCR tests, as well as rapid antigen and antibody tests for a fee. These tests are also carried out in the rapid antigen test centre.
